New 'Apprentice' Printer Program

Inaugurated in 2024, APW designed this exciting new program to deliver ‘apprentice-like’ fine art printer training. The program aims to nurture and develop the technical and collaborative printing skills of talented artist printmakers and ensure the continuation of this important visual arts medium in Australia. 

Working as part of a team, trainees are mentored by APW’s highly skilled and experienced senior printers,  gaining hands-on experience in APW’s print and artist programs using APW’s world class print studios. Each trainee also undertakes a special collaborative print project (as principal printer) with a local artist.

Generously supported by The Ian Potter Foundation this major 3-year program (2024 + 2025 + 2026) reflects APW’s commitment to fostering the next generation of collaborative fine art printers.

APW is thrilled to welcome Miriam Penrose and Jeremy Grigg to APW - the inaugural APW “Apprentice” Printer Program trainees for 2024.

Selected from a highly competitive field of applications from around Australia, Miriam and Jeremy are graduates of ANU School of Art & Design (Canberra).

Miriam and Jeremy have said they value the 12-month program as an opportunity to enhance their printing skills and learn first-hand what it is like to work in a professional print studio on collaborative print projects with leading contemporary Australian artists.

Two placements are offered each year. Applications for the next trainee placements in 2025 will be sought later in 2024.
