Inaugurated in 2024, APW designed this exciting program to deliver ‘apprentice-like’ fine art printer training. The program aims to nurture and develop the technical and collaborative printing skills of talented artist printmakers and ensure the continuation of this important visual arts medium in Australia.
Working as part of a team, trainees are mentored by APW’s highly skilled and experienced senior printers, gaining hands-on experience in APW’s print and artist programs using APW’s world class print studios. Each trainee also undertakes a special collaborative print project (as principal printer).
Generously supported by The Ian Potter Foundation this major 3-year program (2024 + 2025 + 2026) reflects APW’s commitment to fostering the next generation of collaborative fine art printers.
APW is delighted to welcome Tom Sinclair (left) and Declan Monaghan (right) as APW 'Apprentice' Printer Program trainees for 2025.
Selected from a highly competitive field of applications from around Australia, both are Fine Art graduates with majors in printmaking - Tom from NAS (Sydney) and Declan from RMIT (Melbourne).
In addition to their own creative practices, Tom has a background in heritage woodworking, while Declan most recently worked as a Technical Officer at Monash University's printmaking department.
Viewing the 12-month program as an excellent opportunity to enhance their printing skills and learn first-hand what it is like to work in a professional print studio on collaborative print projects with leading contemporary Australian artists, Tom and Declan have quickly become valued members of the APW team.
Two 'apprentice' placements are offered each year. Applications will be sought later in 2025 for 2026 placements.
