This course will enable participants to explore intaglio printmaking through the creation of tonal imagery.
Participants will learn how to draw directly onto the copper plate to create painterly marks and will develop the skills to use aquatint, sugarlift and open bite techniques. These techniques are perfect for artists who enjoy the freedom of using a brush.
Experimenting with ways of drawing and printing the plates to produce rich, tonal images, this course is a great way to build on the skills acquired in Etching #1 (although this is not a prerequisite to enrolment in Etching #2) – and will cover plate preparation, mark making with sugarlift and the application of aquatint, along with paper preparation, registration techniques and the correct use of an etching press to print a limited edition of fine art prints.
